Mumbai Indians became the most successful franchise in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) after clinching the 2019 title, their 4th overall. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, rechristened from Delhi Daredevils ahead of the 2019 season, are still searching for the elusive title win.
Despite a huge gulf between Mumbai and Delhi in terms of sheer consistency and title wins, there’s no separating these two teams when it comes to DC vs MI head to head encounters. Delhi may lack the profile, but they have never shied away from giving Mumbai a fight on the pitch. The MI vs DC match up speaks for itself, as out of the total 24 encounters, both the teams have 12 wins apiece.

Mumbai Indians hit the road and travelled to the capital to face Delhi in DC vs MI was either team’s the first game of the 2019 season. As has always been the case with Mumbai, they were once again a bit short of their usual high levels in the early phase of the season and Delhi made them pay.
There was no dearth of drama and it started right from the toss, with Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma taking a weird decision, as he asked Delhi Capitals to bat first on a flat track. It was a mistake, really, and it was out in the open as Delhi made the mockery of Mumbai’s bowling attack and tactics, piling on a massive total of 213 runs for the loss of six wickets. India’s rising star Rishabh Pant was the absolute star of the show, justifying that the hype surrounding him was real as he struck a quickfire 78 off just 27 balls, with 60 of those runs coming in boundaries to push MI vs DC live score.
Mumbai made a blistering start in the chase of a daunting total, as Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock touched 30 runs in just 3 overs. But the pressure of the run chase was too much. There was no breathing space and Rohit Sharma was found wanting for shots on Ishant Sharma’s bowling, and it was all downhill for the team after that. Yuvraj Singh wound the clock back a little with his 53 off 35 balls, but Mumbai were never really in the match and lost the game by a massive 37 runs.
In MI vs DC 2019, Rohit Sharma’s team was in a completely different shape, coming into the game on the back of four wins in five games. Delhi, meanwhile, were losing momentum and looked a pale shadow of the form they showed in the early phase. But Shreyas Iyer’s team did remarkably well with the ball, with Mumbai managing only 168 despite losing just five wickets.
But an inspired Mumbai attack, led by unique Jasprit Bumrah, proved too big a matchup for Delhi batting line-up. Deepak Chahar broke the bone of Delhi’s batting line-up, sending three of the first four batsmen to the pavilion, while Bumrah, as always miserly, ended up with figures of 2-18. Delhi were bundled out for just 128 runs to award IPL MI vs DC to the home team.
