The fixture between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad has evolved into a rivalry in the recent years. It has been an equal contest between two heavyweights, although SRH have become a more consistent side in the competition in last few years. Both sides also met in the final of the IPL 2016 edition where SRH emerged winners by 8 runs.

In 2019, the two sides first met at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to bowl first. But soon the decision proved to be a wrong call as both openers of SRH, David Warner and Jonny Bairstow provided a blistering start to their team. Both openers went on to score hundreds as Warner scored 100 runs off 55 deliveries and Bairstow scored 114 off 56 deliveries. SRH vs RCB 2019 total read 231/2 in 20 overs.
