IPL 2021: Two New Teams, Two Groups & New Format on the cards. CHECK DETAILS

The Board Of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the richest cricket Board on the planet and a major source of its income is the IPL – Indian Premier League. The tournament has seen that 13 successful editions and now talks are going on about the changes that can be added to make the 14th edition in 2021 bigger and better.

IPL 2021 to have 10 Teams, Two Groups & New Format?

The BCCI are all set to conduct it’s 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 24. One of the main agenda for the meeting would be to discuss the possibility of addition of 2 new teams to the next IPL edition. The inclusion of Cricket (T20 format) in Olympics is also set to be discussed but the primary focus will remain on the former topic.

As per reports, there could be a change in the format in IPL 2021. 10 teams could be divided into two groups of five with all the sides playing 14 matches  in the league stages.

In the mail, the secretary wrote: “Notice is hereby given that the 89th Annual General Meeting (hereinafter referred to as “AGM”) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (“BCCI”), which will be held on December 24 , 2020, at 1200hrs IST to transact the business as per the agenda annexed herewith.

“Details of the venue will be intimated in due course. Rest of the agenda papers will follow shortly. You are requested to attend the meeting.”

Ahmedabad IPL Team?

Sources say that the new largest cricket stadium built in Ahmedabad will serve as a home venue for one of the new teams which is almost certain to be a franchise based from the same city. There has previously been a franchise from Gujarat state known as Gujarat Lions who were based on Baroda but now this new team will be from Ahmedabad. An approval will be taken from the representatives of all the state associations for the same.

The names of Lucknow / Kanpur, Pune will come for discussion if the BCCI AGM decides to increase more than 1 team for IPL 2021.
